The High hosts its first cocktail event

Drink with your eyes - and mouth - at Highball

No value assignedTomorrow night, the High makes its inaugural foray into drinkable art with a mixology throwdown featuring some of metro Atlanta’s top bartending talent.
The High’s staff pulled together more than a dozen local barkeeps, including Hannah Leonard and Jonathan Turner (GRAIN), Bobby Dudley (S.O.S. Tiki Bar), Greta Buccellato (5Church) and Macon’s Ryan Smith (Reboot Retrocade & Bar).  Each bartender will craft a cocktail using a base liquor — rum, gin, vodka, tequila or bourbon. The winner, selected by attendees in a popular vote, gets a cash prize and bragging rights.“We’re eager to see what they come up with for their cocktail creations,”  Director of Development Allison Chance said.Rand Suffolk, the High’s new director, brought the idea with him from the Philbrook Museum of Art, where he worked before arriving at the High. The Philbrook, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, put on a similar craft cocktail competition fundraiser. The High adapted the concept for this first mixology event, and plans to host similar events in the future.Local catering service Sterling Spoon will provide light bites, and all proceeds will go to the High Museum of Art.
