A new spot for the Stein Club?

Old Stein Club regulars rejoice!

Owner Chris Lautz says he’s closer to picking a spot for Stein Club II.

Disenchanted with the high rents in Midtown, Lautz has gone looking elsewhere. He says he’s narrowed his search to a more downtown location.

“Just in the last six months, I’ve seen the price per square foot shoot from $18 to $35, and that’s just too crazy,” he says.

Lautz says he’s most hopeful about the Castleberry Hill area along Northside Drive, just south of the Georgia Dome.

Meanwhile, the backyard/beer garden at the original Stein Club - at 929 Peachtree Street — has become a favorite campsite for the homeless. But just as the good times at the Stein Club had to come to an end, the camping isn’t likely to last too much longer either.

Despite rumors that the real-estate deal that caused the closing of the popular bar fell through, property owner Jim Borders says he’ll make an announcement about the future of the property in about a month. Borders’ development company, Norvare Group, will team up with another developer for a joint venture on the high-rise residential development, Borders says.
