Former lo-fi anti-hero Bill Callahan continues to mesmerize audiences with his dark humor and mastery of minimalism. Recording as Smog throughout the ’90s, Callahan cut his teeth creating homemade 4-track recordings before signing to Drag City. There, he shed the fuzz and dissonance that dominated his early years, bringing his deadpan baritone to the fore and embracing a cleaner sound with songs such as “Cold Blooded Old Times’ and “Ex-Con,’ some of the most indelible songs of the era.

Party With The Past: Oakland Cemetery

Scores of famous Atlantans, including several former mayors, will be at this Halloween bash hosted by Atlanta History Center and Oakland Cemetery. Well, they will be there in spirit. Historic Oakland Cemetery is the final resting place for many, but on the night of the party it will also be a place for a costume contest, photo scavenger hunt, and more.

[Art Papers Presents: Kim Anno, Films In Progress]

Artist, film maker, and environmental activist Kim Anno uses film, painting, photography, and even tapestry to explore the connection between humans and a changing climate. ART PAPERS presents a screening of Anno’s films, some completed and some in progress. ART PAPERS editor and artistic director Victoria Camblin will be on hand for a Q&A. The screening coincides with Anno’s retrospective exhibit, Wonder.

Black Widow Stories of Death and Rebirth

Poet, herbalist, photographer, and interdisciplinary research-based artist Blache Marie reads poems about their ancestors’ forced migration and share herbal knowledge. Following the talk, Blache screens a short film titled. MOTHER. Charis Books and For Brown Bleeders, a collective of black and native artists and healers who create healing spaces and products, hosts. Donations will support Charis Circle and Blache.

Terminus Modern Ballet debut: Exstasis

Westside Cultural Arts Center - 760 10th St. N.W. Atlanta, GA 30138 $25-$50. 8 p.m.

With a score featuring everything from classical music to R&B and a concept deeply rooted in Atlanta, Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre makes its debut. Exstasis is inspired by the human search for feelings of ecstasy and the need to feel superhuman, if only for a moment. The collective of classically trained dancers has 85 combined years of experience with ballet and modern dance. The name Terminus is a nod to Atlanta’s railroad past, but also to the intersecting cultures and experience that make shows like Exstasis possible.
