Kasim Reed replaces public defender Rosalie Joy
She’d been with the office for nearly three decades
Joeff Davis/CL fileAtlanta Mayor Kasim Reed has ousted and replaced the interim head of the city’s public defender office, according to Law.com’s Daily Report.
Rosalie Joy’s tenure as Atlanta’s lead public defender began in 2010, when Reed tapped her predecessor, Candace Byrd, to be his chief of staff. Before that, Joy had worked in the PD office for just over two decades. Now, Kenneth Days III will take be taking the helm.
Some civil rights groups suggest the move to replace Joy stemmed from an effort by municipal court judges who wanted to fire her for helping keep homeless people out of jail.
