Doraville elects transgender politico
She’s the second transgender person ever elected to Georgia public office
Courtesy Stephe KoontzStephe Koontz says “transgender youths need a role model and to be able to see that they do have a future,” according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Doraville voters recently elected Koontz to a city council post, making her the only transgender elected official in Georgia. She’s not the first ever trans person picked to hold public office in the state, but she doesn’t want her gender identity to be the centerpiece of her platform, anyway. She wants to build affordable housing initiatives, improve zoning codes, and offer better educational opportunities to her community’s kids.
